Description

This presentation examines the diagnosis, repair, corrosion mitigation, and structural health monitoring of reinforced concrete maritime docks operating in highly aggressive marine environments in Colombia. Using real case studies, it presents practical methodologies for structural condition assessment, durability evaluation, corrosion control, repair, and long-term performance monitoring, with an emphasis on enhancing the service life of maritime infrastructure.

Learning objectives include:

  • Identify the primary deterioration mechanisms affecting reinforced concrete maritime docks exposed to highly aggressive marine environments and their impact on structural performance and durability.
  • Evaluate field methods, inspection techniques, and condition assessment procedures used to diagnose deterioration, determine the causes of structural damage, and assess corrosion in maritime concrete structures.
  • Select and apply performance-based repair, rehabilitation, and corrosion mitigation strategies to improve durability, restore structural performance, and extend the service life.
  • Explain the role of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems in supporting condition assessment, evaluating repair effectiveness, and enabling long-term performance monitoring and asset management of maritime structures.
